Office of General Counsel

The Office of the General Counsel is responsible for the management of all legal issues affecting the National Urban League. Our mission is to educate our staff on the laws, policies and procedures applicable to National Urban League activities, prevent legal problems and solve those that occur, minimize legal risks and costs efficiently, facilitate transactions, and provide timely and thoughtful advice to support our work.

Each year at our annual conference, the office hosts a pro-bono street law clinic and legal panel as part of the Conference's Day of Service. Our mission is to inform and impact as many lives as possible in one day. Volunteer lawyers provide on the spot advice and resources to members of the community at the clinic, and experts speak on a legal issue facing the community at the panel.

If you are interested in sponsoring or learning more about the law clinic, please email Elizabeth Friedman, efriedman@nul.org.

When funding allows, the office hosts a recent law school graduate as a law fellow, providing real-world experience in federal compliance and grant management as it pertains to regulatory requirements.

If you are interested becoming a fellow, please email Elizabeth Friedman, efriedman@nul.org.
